Using recycled felt in our kits was a very conscious decision for us. We knew that our customer base might need some persuading and more information, but that seemed like part of the fun. You see, using natural fibres is not always as straightforward as it seems!
Have you ever reflected on your surname? When I got married, I gained a very unusual name – Tamisari. Somewhere in the distant past, the Tamisari family were craftsmen. Their craft was so much a part of who they were that they became known by it. The world is a very different place now, but I am convinced that for a whole range of reasons, it is just as important as it ever was to pass on skills.
Often when we talk about creativity, what we are really talking about is skill. They are often confused with each other and this confusion can leave us feeling less than we are. When people tell me that they lack creative spark, they mean that they don’t have skills in drawing, or embroidery or writing. The good news is, that this is not a permanent thing. Skills can be learnt.
There are as many ways to be mindful as there are people…I love the feel of fabric or felt in my hands and the contrast with the smooth precision of the needle. Sewing is therapy for me.
If you look at the view from a mountain top, or wander down a path through woodland, it is hard to imagine that nature is anything other than perfect. However, as we all know, our planet is in need of some urgent care and attention.
I love this time of year – the transition between summer and autumn. Gone are the uncomfortably hot, glaringly bright days, and everything seems to take a mellower turn.
We are made for making. Creativity helps us slow down from the frantic pace of life and offers us a lifeline.
